Odisha lifter Achyutananda Sahoo lived up to his reputation as the Youth Commonwealth champion by bagging three gold medals and setting a new National record in the 7th Youth National Weightlifting Championship at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh today.
Sahoo, 18, won the three gold in boys` 62 kg weight class, lifting 102 kg in snatch, 128kg in clean and jerk for a total of 230 kg. He set the new National record in the snatch event, bettering the previous record of 101 kg, which was achieved earlier in the day by Hitlar Sorom Tagru of Arunachal Pradesh.
Earlier yesterday, Aruna Kumar Santa fetched Odisha one gold and two silver medals in boys 56kg weight class. He bagged the gold for a total lift of 205kg and the two silvers, lifting 90kg in snatch and 115kg in clean and jerk.
